Bill Carroll, Life Coach Coordinator for  Operation New Hope was our guest speaker on June 7th.

Following a successful career in financial and mortgage banking services, our speaker Bill Carroll took on a new role – Volunteer Coordinator for Operation New Hope, an organization dedicated to improving urban communities through investing in its residents, and Keystone Leader of its Ready 4 Work program, an initiative designed to combat the growing recidivism rate.

Ready 4 Work is not a social handout, but rather a good business model providing Early Recruitment (enlisting convict involvement prior to release from prison), Case Management (assistance with obtaining drivers licenses, medication, etc.), Career Development Training (providing knowledge and improving skill sets), Life Coaching (advice, encouragement, role modeling), and Sales and Marketing (“You will succeed in getting a job!”).  The 750,000 inmates released each year are ill-prepared to overcome obstacles, and most have insufficient social skills.  Ready 4 Work gives them hope, a priceless advantage.
Scary statistics:  5% of the world’s population lives in the U.S., 25% of the world’s incarcerated population is in the U.S.  We have 2.4 million in prison and 5.1 million of probation or parole.  7 million children have at least 1 parent in prison or on probation or parole, which greatly increases the chances of those children repeating their parent’s pattern.
With Ready 4 Work, the recidivism rate has dropped to 5% - 15%, compared to the national norm of 75%.  Think about that.   Nine-out- of-ten Ready to Work ex-inmates stay on the job.  And the cost of re-incarceration is substantially reduced, which has brought this program to the attention of 3 presidents now.
We thank Bill Carroll and his New Hope team for joining us last Tuesday to inform us about this very worthy and successful project.
